Dr. Tim Head earned his B.S. in Physics and Mathematics Magna Cum Laude at Texas Tech University and earned both his M.S. in Physics and Doctor of Philosophy in Physics at the University of Illinois, Urbana- Champaign. He has been a member of multiple organizations that allow him to express and pursue his passion in physics, including the American Physical Society (APS), the Texas Section of the American Physical Society, the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). In addition to these memberships, he has been an active member of Society of Physics Students, having been a member, zone councilor, and Chapter Co-Advisor.
Throughout Dr. Head’s time in the physics community, he has won multiple awards ranging from the Texas Tech University Physics Department Outstanding Graduate in 2000 to the 2011 Classroom Teaching Award for the ACU College of Arts and Science. He has belonged to many societies where he devotes his time and energy to their goals, including Sigma Pi Sigma physics honor society, Phi Kappa Phi national honor society, and Golden Key national honor society. Dr. Head’s willingness to become involved in the academic community around him is evidenced by how students describe him, saying “there is no activity placed on the chapter reports that Dr. Head does not personally interact with”. Many claim the reason why Dr. Head stands out more so than other advisors or professors is his “devotion to his students”, especially shown through the twice a week study sessions he hosts for students along with his ever-helpful insight and guidance he provides to information-seeking students.
