Juniata College
2019
Jocelynn Bell Burnell Outstanding Leadership Scholarship
I am a rising senior at Juniata, a small liberal arts college in central Pennsylvania, majoring in Physics and Mathematics. My involvement as an officer in Juniata's SPS chapter has led me to believe that physics can--and should--be explored and enjoyed by everyone. I have been a part of many outreach programs with the goal of bringing the joy of physics to the young and old alike. This commitment to outreach has allowed me to be a member of the outreach committee within the SPS National Council during my service as an associate zone councilor this past year. As chapter president next year, I hope to continue this tradition of strong community engagement. While at Juniata, I have conducted research with several optical tweezing setups which has given me an interest in this field. In my free time I run cross-country and track and field, play trombone, and enjoy hiking. After graduating I hope to attend graduate school in optics or energy systems, with a focus on renewable energies. I am extremely passionate about environmental conservation and renewable energy resources.
