Dr. Jency Sundararajan is an Assistant Professor, General Faculty at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville VA since Fall 2022. Prior to joining UVA, she was an Associate/Assistant Professor of Physics at Missouri Southern State University, Joplin MO during Fall 2014 - Spring 2022. She holds a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Master of Philosophy in Physics from Bharathidasan University, India. She received her Master of Science and PhD in Physics from the University of Idaho, Moscow ID with research in charge transport in hybrid nanostructures. She completed her postdoctoral research at the University of Washington, Seattle WA on the modeling of nanodevices for photovoltaic applications.
She currently serves as the Zone Councilor for SPS Zone 12 - Term 2 (2022-2025). She got elected into this position during her tenure at MSSU in Spring 2022 and continues to serve as ZC in spite of her new position at UVA in Zone 4. She previously served her first term as the ZC for Zone 12 from 2019 to 2022. She served as the MSSU SPS chapter advisor 2016-2022 and is currently serving as the UVA SPS chapter advisor since Fall 2022. During her time at MSSU, she played a major role in making the chapter active locally and nationally. The chapter received national recognition 5 times in a row and the chapter members benefited from many SPS awards: Travel award, Reporter award, Marsh White award, Chapter research award, Blake Lilly prize, Sigma Pi Sigma chapter project award multiple times. She was one of the 2019-2020 outstanding chapter advisor award nominees.
She is interested in making physics entertaining for all ages through hands-on activities and fun demonstrations. She is enthusiastic about promoting science and has been constantly involved in community outreach and science shows on/off campus and at local schools.
