It is the end of my first full week at The Optical Society (OSA). So far I absolutely love my team members, as well as all the staff at OSA. Everyone is very welcoming and friendly and I feel like I have worked here for much longer than a week and a half.
**My last name, Mort, translates from French to death. I joke around saying that if I get my PhD, I will be Dr. Mort, aka Dr. Death. And I will build a spaceship and name it the Death Star.
Having steeled myself for my time here, I feel as though I'm ready to take on my ultimate goal one step at a time. Off to a good start so far; I hope to keep my feet planted on the ground as I continue to make progress here at the national Society of Physics Students office.
This week has been an incredible and challenging week of learning, growing and changing perspectives. I was looking at some pictures and posts on Tuesday from only a week and three days earlier. They were during the last couple days of student teaching.
Wow. It's been a crazy week. I just moved here from Oregon on Sunday and it's my first time out on the east coast. We have been exploring D.C., doing outreach, working, and I have been working on homework.
After almost 11 hours of fights, layovers and traffic, I finally arrived at my new home at George Washington University. All 14 of the SPS interns share a giant suite type dorm, with two students per room.
