Kettering University A & B
2019
Aysen Tunca Memorial Scholarship
I am currently a Junior at Kettering University in Michigan, where I am double majoring in Engineering Physics and Mechanical Engineering. I am proud to be in the first and only ABET accredited Physics program in the United States. I am also a member of Sigma Pi Sigma, the Physics Honor Society, and the Society of Women Engineers. Outside of school, I am very active in extracurricular activities. I have sung in organized choirs since age six, and enjoy sharing my love for music through community choirs and performances at senior centers. I am a licensed Amateur radio operator, my FCC callsign is KM4LAO, and I serve as president of the Kettering University Amateur Radio Club. I also love staying up to date on the latest discoveries and activities related to space and astronomy. Kettering University is build around co-operative education, where students alternate between 11 week academic terms and 11 week co-op terms. I work as a co-op student at Textron Specialized Vehicles (TSV) in Augusta, GA, and will graduate from Kettering with over two and a half years of work experience. In the summer of 2019, I will begin research at Textron Specialized Vehicles for my required undergraduate thesis project. Working as a co-op student has allowed me to experience many parts of both physics and engineering. My goals once I finish my undergrad degree are to earn a master’s degree and work in a physics and/or engineering related job that allows me to apply my skills to benefit my community.
