Northern Virginia Community College
2021
SPS and AAPT Mary Beth Monroe Memorial Scholarship
I graduated with my Associate’s in Science from Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) and I will begin my junior year at George Mason University (GMU) as a physics major with a concentration in astrophysics. I joined NVCC’s SPS Chapter at the start of 2020 and became the treasurer for the 2020-21 academic year. With the current pandemic, I continued to stay active virtually with SPS. I have helped host Chapter meetings, participated in various physics labs, and presented my research project on the Poisson Spot during my Chapter’s research conference in November 2020. In the summer of 2021, I will assist students with the physics workshops at the Females of Color Underrepresented in STEM (FOCUS) summer camp through GMU. Also, I am helping coordinate STEM conferences with NVCC’s Tech Club and will host more physics labs with my SPS Chapter. The SPS Chapter and I will also host a stargazing event this summer (I am so excited to share my passion for the cosmos with others)! My plan for the future is to get into graduate school and to one day contribute to astrophysics research. Another plan is to host, or participate in, various STEM events where I can spread support & inspire other physics students!
