Biography
Greetings, I am Hasif Ahmed, an international student from Bangladesh, currently pursuing a double major in physics and mathematics. My primary interests lie in theoretical, mathematical, and computational physics, with a focus on abstract algebra, quantum foundations and information, and category theory. I am eager to continue exploring and researching these captivating topics as part of my graduate studies. Currently, I am taking advanced-level courses in mathematics and physics, including Group Theory, Differential Geometry, Quantum Mechanics, and Fluid Mechanics. In addition, I am also pursuing self-initiated independent studies, such as Quantum Computing, Symmetry and Quantum Mechanics. As the current President of the Society of Physics Students chapter at Lawrence University, I actively organize and participate in physics-related events. For instance, I host the weekly SPS signature event "Physics Tea," organize fun physics events such as "Physics Jeopardy" and "Physics Icebreaker," and tutor students in physics classes ranging from introductory courses to intermediate courses like Modern Physics, Electricity, and Magnetism. Moreover, I have been a class teaching assistant for the introductory physics courses. This summer of 2023, I will be working as a research intern for NERSC at Berkeley Lab for a computational high-energy physics project. Outside of physics, I serve as the Communications Co-chair for "Lawrentians Enhancing Diversity in Science," a club aimed at promoting diversity in the Lawrence University STEM community by organizing events that help students learn more STEM skills. Additionally, I'm enthusiastic about competitive debating and hold the position of President in the Lawrence University Debating Club.
