Aditya Dhumuntarao

Biography

I am concurrently pursuing degrees in mathematics and physics, with an honors concentration, at Arizona State University and plan to graduate in Spring 2016. During my undergraduate career, I aim to continue to guide underrepresented minorities as a STEM mentor, remain active in my SPS community, and participate in independent studies and research opportunities. I have served as the chapter vice president this year, and have immensely enjoyed working to promote membership and SPS presence through various outreach events, native to and away from our host university. In addition to my SPS activities, my research interests primarily lie in computational and theoretical physics because the amalgamation of computation with theory has resulted in new techniques to explore reality.

During the summer following my sophomore year, I participated in an NSF Mathematics REU offered at my home institution, where I studied computational fluid dynamics and cosmology. To further explore my interests in theoretical physics, I will be attending an REU at University of Minnesota during the upcoming summer.

Upon my graduation, my dream is to lay the foundation for a research career in physics by pursuing a doctorate in theoretical physics and, ultimately, a research professorship. A research professorship would be deeply fulfilling since I would be able to combine my passion for research while influencing generations of physics students, especially for underrepresented minorities. I am deeply inspired by a career in physics, and I wish to devote my life to servicing my community, and society, through teaching and scientific pursuits.
