SPS Leadership Scholarship
Francesco is going into his senior year at Florida International University double majoring in Physics and Mathematics. He has been a part of his university's solid state team conducting research on the growth of vertically aligned carbon nanotubes. He is also apart of the university's quantum optics team conducting research in cavity quantum electrodynamics computing if different circumstances can yield perfect photon absorption in a cavity.
Francesco joined his SPS chapter his first year at FIU where he soon discovered his new physics family. The sense of camaraderie that every individual and the organization as a whole gave off was invigorating to Francesco and was essential in his academic success. Francesco has been working hard to give back to the organization and its members the same support that they have showed him. He has worked as the chapter's treasurer, his Sigma Pi Sigma chapter's treasurer, as well as his Women in Physics and Astronomy chapter's treasurer to which he is co-founder of. For his last year, Francesco will be serving as the president of his SPS chapter.
Francesco looks forward to inspire incoming members to work hard and propel the organization further just the same as the chapter has done for him. Francesco fully intends to pursue a career in physics and will attend graduate school and earn a PhD after graduation. He is still unsure of what specific field he would like to go into but is sure that he will work hard it whatever field he is fortunate enough to work in. Francesco also has plans to visit his old undergraduate program, and hopefully several others, to share his experiences and shed some light onto any confusions that undergraduates might have so they won't make the same mistakes and make way for a brighter generation.
