Tori Gehling

Biography

I am a senior at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls majoring in Applied Physics for Industry and Engineering (APIE) with a focus in Opto-Electronics and minoring in Mathematics. During the summer of 2022, I was able to do research at my home institution working on an optical trap. This summer, 2023, I have an internship at Banner Engineering where I will get more experience with Optical engineering. I have been part of SPS since my sophomore year. This past year I served as the treasurer, and this upcoming year I will be the vice-president. My chapter has been working hard to ensure a welcoming atmosphere along with reestablishing community outreach through demos and science talks. The events we hold range from an observatory night, planetarium talks, a haunted lab (for the kiddos), and a pi-mile run. We hope to continue this growth and sense of community between chapter members, friends, family, peers, and the River Falls and surrounding communities. I am not completely sure what I want to do for the future yet after graduating. I'm hoping I'll have a better understanding after my internship of whether or not I would like to go right into industry or continuing my education and do research.
