Helen Meskhidze

Biography

I am about to start my senior year at Elon University where I'm pursuing a double major in physics and philosophy. I plan on attending graduate school post-graduation. I served as Secretary of Elon's SPS my first year and I've been serving as SPS President for two years now. My main work with our SPS chapter has been focusing on making our weekly meetings more effective, educational, and fun. We've attended many zone conferences and last year, we hosted a campus-wide "Space Week" in honor of Neil deGrasse Tyson's visit to Elon. My research at Elon is in computational astrophysics and this summer (2015) I’ll be interning at the Space Telescope Science Institute studying Local Group dwarf galaxies. In addition to physics and astronomy, I'm also very interested in philosophy of science and love reading philosophy. I enjoy hiking, rock climbing, traveling, and cooking.
