I’ve been procrastinating writing this blog post for a long time…I didn’t want to say goodbye!

It’s a bit of a strange feeling, writing this blog from my dorm in Hamilton, NY, instead of Amsterdam Hall. I had definitely become very used to life in D.C., and having all the other interns around. The last week went by in no time, even though we did quite a bit.

1 summer, 10 weeks, and 1 million steps, and just like the internship has come to a close.

The final week of the internship has come to a close and I have arrived safely in Illinois after 14 hours on the road. After all 10 weeks, I must say I had a fantastic summer. During the final week, there was a lot of finishing up to do but also a lot of preparing to say goodbyes.

Hi y’all! This will be my last blog of the SPS summer internship. This summer has been among the most challenging of my life. I witnessed the failure of our government to properly meet the needs of our people.

This is my last blog post, and wow my time in D.C. flew by.

On Tuesday, we held our final DnD session, which was terrific. We played on the lawn of the Lincoln Memorial so we could play and watch the sunset together. We all had a good time and agreed to try and play with each other virtually during the semester.

This week, our last week, was both exciting and emotional. I spent most of work finishing up bill summaries and practicing my presentation again and again and again. I also listened to others give their presentations and we all gave each other constructive criticism.

I am writing this blog post in a very different place from all of my other editions— from my home in Massachusetts. It feels almost as though the internship never happened being back here— it was an abrupt change back to my previous life as if I never lived in DC, and it feels odd.

The last week flew by. Between finishing up projects, spending time with friends, practicing final presentations, packing, and trying to sleep between all of the other things it has been hectic!
