Colin Myers

Hello! My name is Colin Myers, and I am a research intern at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The first week of this internship has been one of the most exciting times of my life. Meeting the other interns has been fantastic!

It’s good to be back! As a former SPS intern (Physics Today’22) I am honored to return as the Mather-NIST Science Policy Intern. It feels good to not only to see some familiar faces such as Brad, Mikayla, Kayla, Jack, and my fellow former intern Janessa but also to be back in DC.

This week, I’ve learned exactly three things:

  1. The field of Rheology has endless research opportunities.

  2. IT problems will make or break your workday.

This week was move-in week along with orientation! Its my first time living in dorms along with a roomate. I flew from Texas early sunday morning and I got to D.C. in the afternoon. Coincedentally, I actually bumped into another intern on that flight.

This first week has certainly flown by! The interns were able to get together for dinner Monday night before orientation at a restaurant named Tonic, where we got to learn more about one another before our initiation into the program.

It feels really weird to be writing one of these after reading so many within the past year, but I am so excited to share my journey here this summer.
